Our Story

When DLM was getting its start back in the early '90s, our project list included just about anything an old house might need. Our antique home in College Hill - and our neighbors' homes - needed everything! We started working on tile and hardwood floors, plumbing, structural repairs, and much more. Branching out of the neighborhood, we talked with many people who wanted to make their homes more functional and livable, and were looking for a professional Greensboro remodeler to do a complete kitchen makeover or add a master bedroom and bath. DLM had been successfully creating and updating spaces in Greensboro's three historic districts, and becoming more well-known all over town.

Tour of Historic Homes & Gardens in Fisher Park:
Saturday, May 20 - Sunday, May 21, 2017 pm

As part of National Historic Preservation Month in May, Preservation Greensboro's Seventh Annual Tour of Historic Homes & Gardens will feature a selection of vintage homes in the Fisher Park neighborhood. The tour will highlight stunning features of early twentieth-century architecture that include key themes in American architectural style. Participants will gain insights into local history, horticulture, and design. "Fisher Park is referenced as one of the state's premier streetcar suburbs," says Benjamin Briggs, Executive Director of Preservation Greensboro. "It was launched with the dedication of Greensboro's streetcar line in 1902, and the gift of the central park space led to the Gate City's first official public park space. In addition to social history, the neighborhood features textbook examples of twentieth-century architecture designed by regionally and nationally prominent architects, ranging from Hobart Upjohn to Greensboro's own Wells Brewer, Harry Barton, and Charles Hartmann." We're here to help.

Starting with remodeling their century-old home in Greensboro's College Hill Historic District, David and Leslie Millsaps were drawn to the idea of helping others reshape their spaces into more comfortable, livable homes for today. It was the motivation for and the beginning of DLM, and we still love our antique residence!

David formed DLM Builders over two decades ago. He is your idea man – having seen the many ways spaces can be ill-designed and built, he can suggest alternatives that will work for you and your home. David enjoys maintaining the client relationship, and is involved with each project from initial meeting to successful completion.

Leslie has been overseeing the smooth inner workings of DLM for twenty-three years. Someone who picks up your call personally – whose power tools are the PC and smartphone – she is also the public face of the company in organizations such as Preservation Greensboro and Greensboro Builders Association Remodelers Council.
